An Ode to Blue – Face of the Day

I love a good themed makeup. Now I’m not saying I go around matching everything all the time but I do think it’s fun for events! My BF and I were heading to a Tigers game and I wanted something just a little fun. The Tigers colors are blue and orange and since orange eyeshadow isn’t really my thing I busted out my blue liner that I so love!

I used three different products to create this bold blue liner.
First up – create what ever base you’d like to for this look. I went for a slightly contoured eye so I just threw a little taupe in my crease. Whatever taupe you have is fine.
Next, grab that blue liner! My favorite is Jane Iredale’s Midnight Blue. For my liner I like to keep it a little thicker on the outer edges and taper it in.
Now it’s time for eyeshadows! I love setting a pencil liner with a powder shadow. It really helps keep it in place all day. I used two shades of eyeshadow to get the color I was going for.
On top of the pencil liner I first placed Jane Iredale’s Blue Hour. It’s not my favorite blue shadow by any means. Fallout like crazy with this one! But it seemed to do the trick. This shade just added a little sparkle and set the liner.
That didn’t end up being quite the color I was going for so, I used one of my favorite blue/purple shadows to add a little more punch to the liner. I used Indigo from the Jane Artist Eyes II palette. I love this color. It’s stunning on it’s own but works well with a variety of liners.
Underneath my eye I used Cappuccino from Alima Pure to give slight definition but also warm up the look. Lastly just mascara, I used the Nvey Eco one that I’ve been really meaning to write a review for.

Hope you enjoyed this little pop of color. I think blues are great at transitioning from summer to fall. Check below for more photos and some swatches.

Now that it’s summer my makeup routine slims down. And yes, that photo above is my slimmed down routine.
What can I say ? I like makeup.
My current routine features me starting with DeVita Moisture Tints in Light (I may need to get medium now that I’ve had some sun though).
I then add some concealer from rms in 11 and bronzer by Vapour Beauty in the shade Spicy (a little goes a long way with this shade).
My cheeks get a summer flush from rms lip2cheek in Smile. It’s a perfect coral color which means I love it. Brows are totally essential for me so I add a little brow definition with Jane Iredale’s Auburn brow gel.
Next it’s time to set the whole lot with Au Naturale Light Veil Finishing Powder. I love this powder as it makes my makeup last all day but doesn’t overly mattify my skin.
Then I sweep a dusting of shadows from Au Naturale & Alima on my eyes and finish with a fun lip.
Lately it’s been the fuchsia color of Burt’s Bees Sweet Violet. I picked it up on whim after seeing it on the gorgeous Britanie of Beauty by Britanie.
This shade is surprisingly pigmented & has pretty great longevity on the lips. It’s a bit different too for me since I nearly always wear corals or reds. Gotta shake things up sometimes.

What’s been your favorite summer makeup item? Do tell!
